Tarot card by card meaning

The Major Arcana is the soul's journey in twenty-two scenes — from the Fool's first step to the World's completion. Study each card's story, its keywords, and the counsel it offers when it lands on your table.

0 · Origins

The Fool

Beginnings · Leap · Trust

A traveller steps off a cliff, eyes on the sky. The Fool is every genuine beginning — the job, the move, the confession — taken before you feel ready. Counsel: leap, but pack lightly.

I · Origins

The Magician

Will · Tools · Initiative

Every suit's emblem lies on the Magician's table, and his hand channels heaven to earth. You already hold what the task requires. Counsel: stop preparing and begin.

II · Spirit

The High Priestess

Intuition · Mystery · Stillness

Seated between dark and light pillars, she guards what is not yet said. Something in your situation is known but unspoken — by you or another. Counsel: listen before you ask.

III · Origins

The Empress

Nurture · Abundance · Creation

Wheat, water, and a crown of stars: the Empress is growth given time and care — a project, a pregnancy, a garden, a business. Counsel: feed what you want to flourish.

IV · Power

The Emperor

Order · Authority · Structure

Stone throne, mountain backdrop, ram's-head resolve. The Emperor builds systems that outlast moods — budgets, boundaries, plans. Counsel: impose order and keep your word.

V · Power

The Hierophant

Tradition · Guidance · Belonging

A teacher between two students, blessing the conventional path. Institutions, mentors, marriage, apprenticeship. Counsel: there is wisdom in the established way — consult it before rejecting it.

VI · Origins

The Lovers

Union · Choice · Values

Two figures beneath an angel's blessing — love, yes, but equally the choice that reveals your values. A decision that aligns heart and principle. Counsel: choose what you can love living with.

VII · Power

The Chariot

Drive · Victory · Direction

Opposing sphinxes pull one chariot, steered by pure will. The Chariot wins through focus, not force — competing demands harnessed to a single direction. Counsel: hold the reins; do not let the horses choose.

VIII · Power

Strength

Patience · Courage · Gentleness

A woman closes a lion's mouth with a calm hand — strength as gentleness, not grip. Endurance, self-mastery, taming your own temper. Counsel: soften your hold and you will hold longer.

IX · Spirit

The Hermit

Solitude · Wisdom · Searching

A lantern on a mountain peak: the Hermit withdraws to see clearly. A period of deliberate solitude — study, retreat, honest inventory. Counsel: step back; the answer needs quiet.

X · Trial

Wheel of Fortune

Cycles · Luck · Turning points

The wheel turns; kings rise and fall with it. Fortune shifts — for better or worse — and the wise prepare rather than cling. Counsel: ride the turn; do not curse it.

XI · Power

Justice

Truth · Fairness · Consequence

Scales in one hand, sword in the other: contracts, verdicts, and the honest audit of your own conduct. What is fair will out. Counsel: document everything and act as if judged.

XII · Trial

The Hanged Man

Surrender · New angle · Waiting

Suspended upside-down, serene: voluntary pause as strategy. Stuck situations resolve when you stop forcing and look from the opposite angle. Counsel: wait actively — observe, don't push.

XIII · Trial

Death

Ending · Release · Transformation

The skeleton knight rides past a fallen king: an ending that clears ground — the job, the chapter, the version of you. Rarely literal; always thorough. Counsel: bury it properly so it stays buried.

XIV · Spirit

Temperance

Balance · Healing · Moderation

An angel pours water between cups, one foot on land, one in the stream. Recovery, blending, the middle path after extremes. Counsel: mix, dilute, and give it time.

XV · Trial

The Devil

Bondage · Habit · Shadow

Chained figures beneath a horned shadow — but the chains hang loose. Addiction, obligation, the arrangement you complain about yet keep. Counsel: name the chain; it is looser than it looks.

XVI · Trial

The Tower

Upheaval · Revelation · Release

Lightning splits the crown's tower and its builders fall. Sudden truth that destroys a false structure — shocking, then liberating. Counsel: let it fall; you will build truer next time.

XVII · Spirit

The Star

Hope · Guidance · Renewal

After the Tower, a figure pours water under eight stars: quiet hope and slow healing. The card of recovered faith — in a plan, a person, yourself. Counsel: follow the small light; it is real.

XVIII · Spirit

The Moon

Illusion · Dreams · Unease

A moonlit path between towers, with dog and wolf howling: things are not as they seem — confusion, rumour, or your own projection. Counsel: wait for daylight before deciding.

XIX · Spirit

The Sun

Joy · Success · Vitality

A child rides out under a blazing sun: the deck's simplest blessing — success, health, happiness earned and uncomplicated. Counsel: accept the good; share it generously.

XX · Spirit

Judgement

Awakening · Calling · Forgiveness

An angel's trumpet raises the sleeping: a calling recognised, a past forgiven, a higher purpose accepted. Second chances with meaning. Counsel: answer; you have been preparing for years.

XXI · Spirit

The World

Completion · Wholeness · Arrival

A dancer in a laurel wreath, the four evangelists at the corners: the journey completed and integrated. Graduation, homecoming, mastery. Counsel: celebrate fully — then ask what calls next.

The Minor Arcana — Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles — carry the everyday texture: work deadlines, love letters, quarrels, paydays. I teach all fifty-six in the coaching circles, where each suit gets its own evening of drills and practice spreads.
